Toothless + An Update On The Kid

The Kid requested a How To Train Your Dragon theme for his birthday party this year.  Like an idiot, I waited until the last minute to go looking for decorations.  Apparently, that movie is old news and not a single store in our city had anything.  What's a mother to do?  Sculpt a dragon from clay, of course.

I had seen a bunch of fondant Toothless dragons on Pinterest, that people had made for the tops of cakes.
I had some potters clay in the fridge leftover from a school function, so I thought, why not, how hard can it be?
Ha.
So I looked at the pictures online and made baby Toothless.

After I took those first pictures, I redid his eyes so they were a bit more round, moved his nose holes up, and added a fish in his mouth.
I used a zesting tool to get some pattern on his legs and tail.

Then I dried him for a few hours in a low oven.
And when I took him out, all the pieces fell off.
So I spent the next hour gluing everything back on.
Awesome.
Once everything was reattached and the glue was dry, I painted him with craft paint.
Somewhere between painting and picture taking, I lost a toenail.

Once he was dry, I sprayed him with a clear coat.
He took his position on top of the birthday cake for the party.

I'll do a full birthday party post when I get a chance.

Now for an update on the birthday boy:

He had his EEG today, so they could confirm the preliminary diagnosis of Absence Seizure Epilepsy given on Tuesday.  The guy doing the test said he got everything he wanted to get during the two hours we were there.  He couldn't share much with us because of policy, but we do know he had two seizures while hooked up to all the wires.  One while he was awake and one while he was sleeping.
Which would explain why his mama thinks he looks tired all the time.
So now, we wait for the neurologist to share her findings with our pediatrician.  I'm hoping for some news tomorrow, but it will most likely be next week.
Our pediatrician will then let us know what the next step is.
I talked to him on the phone for a long time last night and asked the questions you don't want to have to ask.  He said, if it were his son, he'd want an MRI done.  So depending on what the neurologist has to say about the EEG, that may be something that gets added to the calender.
Hurry up and wait.
So that's where we're at tonight.
The poor kid was nauseous and had a fever of 101 this morning, and had a massive headache most of the day.  I don't know if he's trying to come down with something, or if it's just all the stress, anxiety, missing time from school, everyone talking about him, Mom constantly asking if he's okay, etc.

I hate this.

I'll do another update as soon as I know anything.
Thank you for your Facebook messages and emails.

  1. The cake is beautiful friend. You seriously have every creative talent known to man. And I hate this for you. I am currently trying to help a friend get a bill passed for CBD-therapeutic hemp oil that has been known to help children living with seizures. I have a lot of literature on it as my friends grandson suffers from very serious seizures. Anyway if you ever need anything down the road I have some things that I would be happy to forward on to you. He will be ok Mindy.....sending you a giant hug friend. A giant hug to you. Nicole xoxo

  2. I don't have the words for what I feel for you and your son. He is getting great care and he has a wonderful mom to care of him.

And just cause I thought it was funny and you might need a laugh, when you said you lost a toenail, I thought you literally lost your own toenail and that was so random and weird... then I realized you lost toothless' toenail. My bad. It made me laugh. Toothless is super cute.

  3. Grateful that you are finding the people who can help you unravel this mystery. You're probably right that he's tired a lot because his sleep is interrupted. And how are YOU sleeping these days? It can't be easy. Thank you for letting us know how y'all are doing. Continued healing prayers your way...

That dragon is so stinkin' cute. I can't believe you did that yourself. Is there no end to your talents? Just for the record, I thought the same thing as Stacy about the toenail.
    Hang in there, Momma.

  4. First- kudos to you for making the adorable dragon! You are such a sweet mom! I'm so sorry you are going through this trying time with your son's health. We went through a major health issue with our daughter when she was 4- it is rough. Saying a prayer for all of you.

  5. I'm so glad you posted an update on C, I was worried after reading your last post. Kuddos to you for realizing something was going on Min, seriously. I had to look it up and sounds like something that can often go undetected and undiagnosed. Poor baby. I'll be thinking about you guys. Hope answers come quickly, it's the waiting that's the worst, right.

The dragon is ridiculous. RIDICULOUS! You need an HGTV show all about everything you do.
