Meet Libby Lou

Yes, for all you smarty pants who left comments speculating that we brought that little girl puppy home, you were correct.  Her name on the ranch was Lulu, and that has morphed into Libby Lou.

As most of you know, we lost our 14-year old Maddie girl in February, and this mama was not ready for another dog.
Pair that with NEVER wanting a puppy again, and only wanting a low energy, couch dog.
So much for that.

We came home from Klamath Falls with a 7-week old Border Collie.
Jesus help me.

Having a puppy is like having a crawling one-year old who doesn't wear a diaper.
She's constantly peeing (seriously, every 7 minutes) and puts EVERYthing in her mouth.
It's every bit the amount of work that I knew it to be.
I can't turn my back on her.
The only saving grace is that she still takes a lot of naps.
We're considering crate training her, something I've never done before, but as of now, we put the old baby gate up in the kitchen so I can contain her when I'm in there cooking, or if I have to leave the house to take the kids to and from school.
Other than that, I'm by her side the entire rest of the day, and she's by mine.
So much for The Dad and the kids getting a new dog.
This girl loves her new mommy.

And vice versa.

I suppose I was worried about bringing in a new dog, after losing Maddie.
You worry it could never be the same with another dog.
And it isn't.
I think it's similar to the concern people have when they're pregnant with a second baby.
How could you love them as much as the first?
Because you can.  And you do.
The heart has little pockets for each one.

Here she is at bed time, in OUR bed.

And seriously, how could you not love this little fur ball?!

On her bed in the kitchen with The Mom.

Snuggles from The Kid.

Naptime with Baby.

So there she is, the newest addition to the family.
As you can see, she's made herself at home.

  2. Oh I just knew it!!! When I saw the pictures of all the puppies, I thought for sure one of those puppies is going to have a new home πŸ˜ƒ. Oh the joys of having a puppy. They are definitely cute and so sweet to cuddle with, but they are sooooooooo much work. Training and teaching a dog what not to do is a full time job πŸ˜ƒ. Hope she isn't a digger like my last dog was! His favorite thing to do when he was a puppy.....dig up my flower beds.

  4. Ha ha... I thought it was odd that you didn't bring home a pup out of that litter. They were all so adorable!! And your new little girl pup is a dolly. Doesn't get any cuter. I'm sure you have been told that border collies are really really active and need to have a job to do. My husband would like to have one but we will probably compromise and get a black and white sheltie. I don't think I could keep a border collie busy. Good luck. And congrats. The kids must be so happy!

  6. Your new little girl is beautiful! Crate training is easy for a dog as smart as her breed, the first few nights are tortuous, kind of like the first time you get your baby to sleep through the night without you going to her. Put her own bed or blanky in the crate, make her a nest. We crate our doggies, Aussies in the past, now Mini-dachsies. Their crate is their den, their safe place. Good luck! Enjoy her!
