Living Room Remix

Okay fine, if you must know, I spent all last week moving furniture around in my living room.  I got the bug. It comes every now and then.  Generally when the sun is shining through the windows and highlighting the fact that my couch and both of my arm chairs are shredded to pieces.  I need new ones.  Badly.  But it ain't happenin' anytime soon.  So I move them around instead.  I was in, I-hate-this-space, mode.  I know, first world problems.

Our living room has been set up the same way for the twelve years we've been here.  Of course, accessories, pictures, lamps, etc., get moved around, but the furniture has stayed the same. That doesn't mean I haven't moved it around 100 times in those 12 years, but it always goes back to the same way, 'cause it works the best for the room.

Until now.  Dun, dun, dun.  I brought in new stuff from the attic, sat with it one way for a day and a half, then moved and edited it again.  Then I proceeded to spend the next three days moving everything else.  Who's idea was this anyway?

I'd still like to make slipcovers or reupholster the chairs, "someday", and I have fabric out of my stash sitting and waiting for me to pull out the sewing machine for new pillow covers.  And I'm still editing the "stuff."  And, and, and.  But for now, I'll give ya a peak at the new setup.

This is what it looked like the last time I went on my rampage and then put it all back to the way it was. Hey, at least everything got a good cleanin'.

The main problem with any sort of furniture placement is that the front door is smack dab in the middle of the room.  It's to the left of the chair in the photo above.
Directly across from the coffee table.

But I needed change.
And the photo gallery wall was overwhelming me.
We also have a pretty large TV console/bookshelf setup that is on the opposite wall as the fireplace in the above photos.
There's a pathway in front of it that leads to the doorway to the back of the house, or the dining room/kitchen the other way.
I tried it on the wall where the photos are and then I tried just the TV/console by itself.
It was fine, but I didn't like the idea of advertising it to passersby out the giant front window.
Hey, look at me, I'm a big ol' TV just waiting for you to come steal me.
It just felt vulnerable.
Yeah, probably weird.
So anyway, here's what I'm living with for now.

The fireplace is fake.
The Dad built it for me several years ago.
So the good thing about that is, I was able to move it.
The couch is where the fireplace was living, and the fireplace moved to where the couch was living.

I'm still jujjing, (there's no right way to spell that), and I'm trying to come to terms with the fact that I have waaaay too much crap.
And too many things that hang on walls.
There's no blank wall space!
I take down, hang up, take down, hang up, too many times a day.
But most of it is workin', for now.
Just in time to pack everything up to make room for Christmas decorations.
Ha!
And I think maybe I need some color in my life.
My living room looks the same as my closet.
Grey, brown, grey, brown.
There's lots of green, but it blends in with the other neutrals.
It's the couch and chairs.
They've gotta go.
Ooooh, or maybe I should paint the walls........

Please see my sidebar for the parties I link up to.

  2. I have always loved that green and it doesn't seem boring to me. It seems natural. I can't believe that fireplace is fake and can't believe that you moved all of those wall pieces. Crazy. Looks nice though.

  3. I am so with you on moving stuff! I do it non-stop!!! Your room is beautiful friend! I love that you were able to move the fireplace which by the way looks sooo real!!! I think the new layout is outstanding! And the console behind the couch really works!! I am in need of new couches but with chocolate hands it won't be happening...my couches were all from discount stores and I tend to cover them with throws and pillows to hide holes. I love your galleries! You have such an amazing eye for details! You take care! Great job!!

  4. Don't you have a cat? I ask, because my cat would be all over those plants and knocking stuff down while he's at it. The room is very soothing and textured and curated. But I know what it's like to just be tired of things sometimes. Maybe the Christmas color will be what you're looking for!

  6. I love the cloches on the fireplace mantel, and I love the little green birds! We have smaller rooms for our living and dining room, and really there are only certain ways to place the furniture in there so that it fits and works, so I understand what you mean. It made a huge difference for us to get a smaller sofa--before we had a giant one in that small living room, and nothing worked until we got rid of it and replaced it with a smaller one.
