Peach Crumble

There's a house on our block that's been vacant for two years.  It was a rental and the owners have been fixing it up to, I assume, put it on the market.  The point of my story is, there's a doughnut peach tree in the front yard.  And it's loaded with fruit.  And they're ripe.  How can a person resist that?  I honestly considered going down in the dark and loading up a bag, but instead, I walked down with the kids and asked permission to pick.  I got the go-ahead and after eating them till we were sick, I made this dessert.

I've never been a huge fan of cooked peaches.  Peach pie, peach crisp, peach cobbler.  I just prefer them fresh.  Which would explain why I have more pictures of the bowl of peaches than the actual dessert.

With that being said, this was pretty damn good.  It was worth scaling the cabinet boxes in the garage to get to the nutmeg and baking powder.  I was laughing out loud at myself and the ridiculous positions I had to get in.  And was praying I didn't fall and break my neck.  All in the name of food.  Typical.

You can get the recipe here:  Peach Crumble Dessert

Here it is coming together at my house:

And hot out of the oven:

I took it to my sister's over the weekend and we ate it at room temp, but it would have been sooo good hot. With a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
So for all you peach dessert lovers out there, this definitely got two thumbs up.

  1. That looks so very good, Mindy. I, too, like fresh peaches but I can't stand the ones that are canned. They taste slimy to me....ugh. Your crisp would soon disappear around here- xo Diana

  4. My daughter and I prefer them fresh, while the boys cooked, it's a house divided. But the point is, how lucky that you spotted that tree. Donut peaches are the best! I have a tree but it has yet to give me a ripe fruit. It's diseased I think. The crumble looks awesome!
