Happy Halloween!

I plan on doing what every parent does....sneaking the kids' candy once they go to bed.

Random Thoughts and Tidbits: Part 4

I'm really grouchy, so we'll see how this goes.

  • In an attempt to make myself feel better, I just ate two giant pieces of leftover rice krispies treat birthday cake.  I think I'm gonna need more.
  • I'm exhausted.
  • I'm pretty sure it's illegal for an almost 9-month-old to be waking up every three hours in the night.  If not, it should be.  See previous statement.
  • My mother-in-law is in town, so I may be MIA for the rest of the week.
  • The Dad's birthday is tomorrow and the birthday present I had planned had technical difficulties.  It is no longer an option at this point.  I'm having a wee bit of an anxiety attack, considering it's the night before and I ain't got nothin'.
  • I will never be on board with spontaneity.
  • Time, Money & Motivation.  I'm lacking all three.
  • The random dinner I threw together tonight was really, really good.  It screamed Fall.
  • I would give an awful lot for just one good full night of sleep.
  • Did I mention I'm grouchy?
  • I have a zillion things I want to get done in the house before 5:00 pm tomorrow, but right now, all I want to do is curl up on the couch with the remote.
  • I'm really having a hard time keeping my eyes open.
  • Wow, 7:45.  Party animal.
  • Debbie Downer has entered the building.
  • I think that's my cue.

Princess Cupcakes

Day One:  See the cutest cupcakes with handmade white chocolate tiaras on Pinterest and decide you have to make them for The Girl's birthday.

Day Two:  Gather up all your gear and spend a solid two hours making enough tiaras to decorate the tops of  birthday cupcakes and a birthday cake for the following weekend.

Day Three:  Put The Girl down for a nap and haul out all the cupcake stuff to get them ready for later that night.  Get a couple practice ones done and fill up your icing bag with more frosting. Set the spatula down and knock the tray of tiaras on the floor.  Look down and see a kagillion fragments of white chocolate splayed out all over the kitchen floor.  Try not to cry.  Curse yourself.  Get your camera and take pictures, because that's what bloggers do.  Clean up the mess.  Call your mom to whine about your idiotic, klutzy move.  Put sprinkles on the rest of the cupcakes.

You just can't make this shit up.

Here are The Girl's princess birthday cupcakes, minus a couple dozen tiaras:

I used a boxed white cake mix and stirred in a cup or so of fresh raspberries.
I made cream cheese frosting and colored it blush pink.
Pink cupcake wrappers.
Pink and white pearl sprinkles.

Here's a fragment of the disaster:

And here's the birthday girl:

I took these earlier in the day.
Her brother had just "accidentally" stomped on her toe.

Isn't she pretty?  :o)
We're off to party like princesses this weekend.
I'll be back next week.

Princess For A Day: A Kid Lunch

Today is The Girl's 5th birthday.  I'm not quite sure how that happened.  I know everyone says it goes fast, but this is more like lightening speed.  I swear she was just learning how to walk.

We're having a party for her this weekend, but you can't just let the "real" birthday go by unnoticed.  We've got family coming tonight for pizza and cupcakes.  And I made her a fun birthday lunch.  As I'm sure it is with most little girls, she's into all things princess right now.  So a princess lunch it shall be.

The head is just a peanut butter and jelly sammie.  Fruit leather for her hair, eyebrows and mouth.  A sprinkle nose.  Candy eyes.  Bananas around the rim.  And the crowning glory, hahaha, a white chocolate tiara.  They'll be making an appearance on her cupcakes, but I stole one for her lunch.

Here's the birthday girl's princess lunch on her plate:

When I sat it down in front of her, the first thing she said was, It's a princess!
Score one for The Mom.

Happy Birthday, Em.
I love you too much.
