I drew the tree onto our kitchen chalkboard door, but you could do it on poster board, craft paper, whatever you've got. I've even seen the leaves hanging on branches stuck into a vase, and that's super cute, too.
I stuck ours on with regular tape.
I just free-handed the leaves onto some scrapbook paper from my stash, but if you need help, you can download a printable here. If you're feeling creative, fold your paper in half and draw half of your leaf shape on. When you cut it out, it will be perfectly symmetrical. Ya know, if you're into that sorta thing.
I wrote a few things down to start it off. The Kid added a few, and The Girl added one. There's plenty of leaves to add things as they pop into their little ungrateful heads. ;o)
Clearly this is mine.
These three are The Kid's.
They both thought this was hilarious.
Little do they know.
The Girl added this one.
Waking up to hot coffee in the morning does not suck at all.
So that's our Thankful Tree so far.
I think this will be the start of a new tradition at our house.
And on that note, I'm cooking dinner for my buddy's family and his parents tonight, so off I go....
Love this! And I hope your ungrateful brats learn a thing or two (ha! that was fun to type...of course I'm sure your kids aren't actually brats, then again I've never met them so who knows...)
ReplyDeleteI did not know you had a chalkboard on your door. That is cool. I made one of these for the kids a couple of years ago but I had to make it out brown paper bags. It looks like the kids are coming up with some wonderful things to be thankful for. I'd put pinot noir on my thankful tree too :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cute idea and a great way to remind our children and ourselves too all that we have to be thankful for. We do something similar after dinner on Thanksgiving day where each person goes around the room and tells another why they are thankful for them. Usually ends in a lot of tears! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteGenius, Mindy!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the idea!! LOVE it!
It feels like it's been forever since I've had the time to leave a comment. I saw your daughter's beautiful rainbow party a few weeks ago . . . and LOVED all your thoughtful ideas.
Back to the Thankful Tree . . . This is even a great idea to do for a Thanksgiving Mingle activity! Half the guests attending our Thanksgiving Dinner this year will be people that I/we don't know. My sister is calling it a 'refugee Thanksgiving.' I'm so happy and excited to open our home to several folks who need a home, family, and food on Thanksgiving!
Thanks for sharing your sweet ideas with us!
Have a great weekend,
Suzanne
G'morning, Mindy (by the way, is your name Mindy Rae ?)
ReplyDeleteI just love your chalkboard door...so smart...and the Thankful Tree is a really good idea. Cute as can be
I love the thankful tree! It is so bright and cherry. It's good to teach the kids to value the life they have. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteThat is a brilliant idea. Simple, smart and relevant for the kids and adults. I love it!
