The Parking Strip: 5/11/15

Quite a few new things are blooming down in the parking strip since my last post, so figured I'd head that direction with the camera this time.

I had to take a few pictures of the Tina rose up in the yard first, though.
As is typical, it's covered in black spot right now.
It'll loose all its leaves, then come back healthy for the rest of the summer.
She blooms her little heart out, in spite of it.

Right outside the fence, the Snow In Summer has started to bloom.

This poor Campion was buried under the Rosemary, so I dug it last week and moved it to the fence section.
This is Lychnis viscaria Passion, also called German Catchfly.
I put it in two years ago and it didn't do a single thing last year.
Nada.
He's quite happy right now.

Here's a shot of the parking strip from inside the fence.

The 'Double Bloody Mary' Geum has burst into bloom.
It's completely redeeming itself from the pathetic performance it put on after buying it last year.

Next to it, another plant that I bought two years ago, is attempting to convince me not to yank it.
Golden Nugget Sun Rose, aka, Helianthemum x nummularium 'Golden Nugget.'

The volunteer Spiderwort is blooming next to the 'Moonraker' Phygelius.

I got a piece of this iris from my sister's old house before she moved out three years ago.
I love it.

The variegated iris is in full bloom down at the other end.

The Amsonia 'Blue Ice', that I bought off the clearance rack at the end of summer last year, is just starting to show color.

And last, another one of my fall, Winco, $2 bulb box purchases.
Allium 'Purple Sensation.'
Love, love, love.

And that's it for down there this week.
The Dad got me pink lilies for Mother's Day that I need to get out and plant, but it's been raining and cold.
I also got some veggie starts from a girlfriend, and from a neighborhood plant swap, but I did manage to get those things planted before the shift in weather.
I'll have to do an updated driveway post soon.
Until next time...

  1. Looking good!!! Love learning about new flowers I don't have! We went from high 80's down to 50's. After all those hot days, 50 degrees feels like it's going to snow. Lol. It's supposed to get even colder tonight and tomorrow. Yuck!

  3. Roses are such beautiful flowers, and it's great that yours redeems itself by blooming so profusely. They smell so great too. But...black spot is why I don't grow roses. Well, I do have two roses, Rosa glauca and Rosa sericea, but neither of them is grown for its flowers. Your Phygelius and your Allium are both lovely too!

  4. Your parking strip makes your home look so inviting. You have a few gorgeous plants in there that I've never seen before. My roses have a lot of black spot in our new location and it is a bit frustrating. At the old house I didn't deal with it until late August and September. The blooms are making up for it though.

  5. Hi Mindy!
Wow, your Tina Rose bush looks so healthy! Its leaves are so big, green, and beautiful! I can't wait to see photos of it in full bloom. There are so many!
Everything in your garden is beautiful!
    Have a great weekend,
    Suzanne
