Spring In The Living Room

My computer monitor died.  It's difficult to blog without one.  The Dad brought me home a new one today, hence my presence.

I've been taking lots of pictures in the interim, though, and have lots of things to share.
I had the awesome opportunity to tour Little Prince Nursery over the weekend, and will be sharing photos from that soon, as well as garden updates, the most recent meal plans, and a recipe or two.  Until I can go through them all, I'll share some random shots of spring showing up inside the house.

We had a rough few weeks around these parts, and a girlfriend dropped off the CUTEST stinkin' planter known to man to make me feel better.
It went up on the, already rearranged, mantle so I had to take pictures.
You'll see that I finally took all the old insulators and twinkle lights down.
It was time, but I'm still trying to figure out where in the heck to put all of them.

After walking around the house, day after day, trying to find a home for the new art from my sister, I decided she needed to stay where she was for now.
I just needed to move the other picture, that my brother-in-law's amazing sister did, down and over to accommodate her.
The original tree art is named, Perspective, and I love it.
The new girl, holding flowers, is one of my most loved things in the house right now.
She is so pretty.

Clearly I have a lot of stuff, and I have so many 'favorites', so I decided to gather some of them together on the mantle for a minute.
The pitcher is from my mother-in-law.
Love.
The books (did you know I was obsessed with old books?), insulators, and bird are from my mom.
The cowbell was an anniversary present for The Dad.
The old scoop, that housed my Tillansdia until I killed it, is from my sister.
Candles thrown in 'cause, candles.
The little pottery container with the plant in it is my new favorite thing from my friend.

You're dying over the cuteness of that mini planter, right?

And just for kicks, I took a few pics of the plant life on the coffee table.

(I've been considering painting the front door black for months.  I know, it's a sickness.)

Have I mentioned how much I love spring?

Temporary Grow Operation

In a perfect world, my garage would be tidy, and I could set up tables with some shop lights for starting seeds.  In  a perfect world.  In my actual world, the only path in the garage at this moment, is to the beer fridge.  So what's a girl to do?  Hijack the master bathroom, of course.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, folks.

I lived in a rental house, when I was in my early 20's, that had a full basement.
I had a dining room table set up down there, with shop lights on chains over it, so I could raise them as the seedlings grew.
Unfortunately, in this house, there has never been an open space to do that, so I've always waited until it was okay to start seeds outside.
I always just set out grower's flats and do them that way, with old windows over the tops of them.
Which is fine, but I'm feeling antsy.
I wanted to start some things earlier this year.
So I dug the rack out of the cluster #$%& of a garage and hauled it into the bathroom.
I had been saving some plastic food containers with lids, and when those ran out, I switched to tray packs with six cells.
I ran to Fred's yesterday morning for some seed starting soil, and the operation was underway.
We'll see how it goes.

No heat mats, not fancy lights.
Just a rack, a window, and a squirt bottle.

I have a few cuttings in there, as well.
A couple that I had rooted in water, plus some that a friend brought me from California.
I added a few more after these pictures were taken, too.

I did direct sow some seeds in the driveway pots and in the old sink.
So far, I have cilantro, radishes, and snap peas up.
Still waiting on a couple others to show their heads.
Pretty fun, kids.

Random Thoughts & Tidbits: Part 24

I haven't done one of these posts since last May?  Seriously?  It's been that long?  How is that even possible? Apparently I've hit the age where I'm officially old enough for time to whiz by at lightening speed. Clearly.

  • Baby (who's four now, by the way) calls frisbees, crispies.  "Libby, get your crispy!"
  • She also calls the litter box, the glitter box.
  • When The Girl was Baby's age, her preference for Daddy was blatant.  Anytime I would make edamame, she wouldn't eat them.  So I started telling her I was making edadaddy.  Guess who suddenly loved them.  Yep.  The love was in the air.
  • It's been several months now (apparently), and it hasn't happened since, but I got my first, "I hate you" from Baby.  Ugh.
  • The Kid recently asked why I was so dressed up.  I'm assuming he was referring to my non-elastic waist pants.
  • Baby:  "If you eat a picture, and it goes in your tummy, you'll get sick."
  • Good to know.
  • I did the dresser purge after reading the "life changing" book - why, pray tell, did all my summer jammies smell like that?!
  • Did I ever tell you about the pet fish we acquired on a walk last summer?
  • Did I ever tell you about the parakeet we acquired when my children found it in the neighbor's yard?
  • "So We Bought A Zoo."
  • The Kid:  "You look pretty when you dress up."  Awww
  • I love this song.
  • I'm ready for weather that doesn't include putting fuzzy socks on in the morning.
  • Every night when I tuck Baby into bed, she says, "I love you very much and I love you more."  Every night.
  • Why are girly underwear so expensive?
  • Some days, it only takes a very small thing to make you appreciate all that you have.
  • Baby:  "I wish we had a butter dog."
  • Me:  "A butter dog?"
  • Baby:  "Yeah, a  dog with butter all over it."
  • Me:  "     "
  • This is insanely amazing and totally on my bucket list of things I want to learn how to do.  That chick is AMAZEballs.  I've had the CD for years, but recently discovered the video.  Watch the whole thing.
  • Baby:  "Where's Dad's truck?"
  • Me:  "Dad doesn't have a truck."
  • Baby:  "I wish he had a work truck."
  • Me:  "     "
  • My son sleeps with socks on.  Ewwwww.
  • This is how I imagine my life in my head:

  • This is my actual life:

  • Me, after having a bone conversation at the dinner table: "Elvis Elvis, let me be, keep that pelvis far from me."
  • The Kid:  "What is THAT from?!"
  • Me:  "GREASE!!!!"
  • The Kid:  "Um, we're not a hundred years old MOM."
  • It's Sunday as I type this.  I wanted a beer at 9:30.  I waited.  It's 12:29....off to fetch that beer.....
