The Kitchen Remodel: Phase 14

Hey, hey, hey, it's time for another kitchen update.  We're makin' progress, people.

Saturday, we were able to get the entire fridge wall installed. Woot, woot!  I'm not sure how this happened, but when we went into IKEA to order the cabinets, for some reason on paper, we thought the ceilings were too short for a 24" cabinet over the fridge.  So we switched it out to an 18" at the last minute.  Well, it turns out there's plenty of room, but we really weren't feeling like going to the store to swap them out.  So we put brackets in right above the top of the fridge to hold a shallow shelf under the cabinet, instead.  In these first pictures, you can see the first bracket, as well as how far away from the wall everything is actually installed.

The appliance panel went in next, using brackets to mount it to the ceiling, wall, and floor.

The cabinet above the fridge went in last.

The cabinet you see upside down in front of the fridge goes to the left of the panel, and we got that in, as well.

We also built the little wall that goes next to the dishwasher.
I took a bunch of pictures, 'cause when I was trying to find how other people did it online, there wasn't a whole lot out there.
We used the appliance panel, some filler that we ripped down for the front, then a 2 x 4 that we ripped down behind that.  I'll need to paint the 2 x 4 white, so it blends in, although the only time you'll really be able to see it is when the dishwasher door is open.

Sunday, we got the rest of the upper cabinets installed, all the filler pieces in (the filler is cut out of appliance and/or cabinet panels, and used to fill gaps), and.....wait for it.........
DOORS ON!!!!
Check out my first set of shelves.

Ahhhh, jjjeaaaaahhhh.
If that ain't exciting, I don't know what is.

Here's how everything looks, as of this morning.

And of course, the infamous kitchen remodel bouquet.

Soooo, in other good news, the counters will be installed on the 18th.
I'm only two weeks away from a sink.
While we wait for that to happen, we can work on the lower cabinet doors and drawers, cover panel on the cabinet to the right of the sink, sheet rock on the dining room side of the short wall, build out soffit above stove (the upper cabinet run extends past the soffit), trim, baseboards, ceiling planks, toe kicks, trim under cabinets that hides lighting, etc.
But it's actually starting to look like a real kitchen finally.
Finally.

Love that "office" space next to the fridge. Great use of space! Household organizer is mandatory! You getting counters the same day we are "hopefully" closing on our new property! The 18th can't come soon enough!

  8. Hi Mindy, I bet you and the hubster are beaming with pride. What a nice job. And all that storage space. I love the green you chose and your appliances look so pretty.

I'm curious. Is the sink going in below the window or on the "bar" counter by the dishwasher? And also, how are you surviving without a functioning kitchen? I bet you'll be so glad to have it finished. Excellent job!
