The Third Week Of June In The Backyard

I'm so excited the Ixias are blooming!!!  I bought a pack of these bulbs at the grocery store for two bucks.  I think there was 12 in the box.  They're SO pretty.  Definitely gettin' more next year.

I took a bunch of pictures of the buds, 'cause I was so excited over just that, and then they bloomed the next day.
I love them.

I planted them in a pot, then sprinkled annual Candytuft seeds, that are starting to bloom now as well.
Don't mind the horrible brown spots in the grass.
That's clearly where The Dog chooses to pee EVERY TIME.

The rose that was here when I bought the house is starting its second bloom.
I love it, too.

Notice anything new in the background?
I took my Variegated Willow out of the pot and put him in the ground.

Don't mind the neighbor's Rhody that I still haven't deadheaded.

My old ladder used to sit there, so I had to find a new home for it.
This'll do for now.
My hope is, once that trellis in the pot is completely covered in Black-Eyed Susan Vine, that area won't look so cluttered.

I still may move the Shepard's hook.
It was already there and I was too lazy at the time.

Did you see what's goin' on next to the ladder?
Buds on the PeeGee Hydrangea!!!
So exciting.
Mine is 'Limelight' and it's one of my favorite plants in the yard.

Anyone know what this is?
It comes up in this pot every year and I have no clue where it came from.
Clearly a bulb of some kind, but I'm stumped.

And last, this isn't much to look at yet, but I finally got my old birdcage planted.
I've been talkin' about doin' it forever and it is officially done.
I used moss my mom got out of the forest to line it.
She also gave me some Calibrachoa babies that had reseeded at her house, so I stuck a few of those down in it.

We'll see how it does.
Off to sit on the patio with a glass of beer.
I love summer.

  1. I love the flowers in the first few pictures. Never heard of them before. Always learning about new flowers from your blog. Love it! I see you have grass!!! Lol. I was thinking you didn't have any with all those flower beds. Lol. Is that a Butterfly Bush below the ladder? I love it. Curious, what's in the basket hanging from the shepherd's hook? Are you getting lots of rain? We have been hit with thunderstorms for days now. Getting little tired of all the rain. Haven't been able to get my yard chores done. Too busy cleaning up after the Thunderstorms.

    1. I had never heard of them either! It was one of those, see the box at the grocery store entrance, look at the pretty picture on the front, throw them in the cart. I hope they have them again next year.

I do have grass. A little bit. I kinda wish I had left a small patch out front, just for a visual break, but the lawn in back is nice, if nothin' else for the kids and the dog. :)

The plant below the ladder is a Hebe. I LOVE it. It's the only one that I haven't lost to winter. I planted a new one this year - I'm hoping it's hardy, too.

Sooo, I had a begonia planted in a pot that sat in the garden two years ago. This year there are babies coming up everywhere in and around the pot. So I've been digging them up and sticking them in here and there. That's what's in the pot on the shepard's hook.

It's been raining off and on this week. Low 60's for highs. I haven't seen the forecast, so not sure how long it's supposed to last. We generally don't get constant sun until after the 4th of July. It is a pain in the butt when the rain beats down all the perennials into the mud. But it's also REALLY nice not to have to water stuff in the ground. Especially the parking strip. I really like being able to ignore that part of the yard. :)

  2. Your garden is looking great! I love that Ixias plant. I have never seen it before and I am quite smitten with how it has such long stems. Very cool. I will have to see what zone they live in. Thanks for sharing. I cant wait to see that hydrangea blooming.

  5. Love it all. I have to log off but I'll send you info on the mystery flower. They're new to me too and I love them, even if they do tend toward the blue side.
