The Kitchen Remodel: Phase 5

Who's ready for cabinets?!?  Yeah, join the club.

So Saturday's big accomplishment was removing all the lath and plaster off the dining room side of the wall we're taking out.  What. A. Mess.  I'll be extremely happy when we're done messin' with plaster.  We'll still need to remove it from the part of the three walls behind the lower cabinets, but I think we're finally done with the upper parts.  Ick.

So here's Saturday's work in progress:

Sunday, The Dad got up in the attic to clean out all the weird, loose insulation that was packed inside the soffit.
He also removed the heat ducts on both sides of the wall.
They'll eventually be moved to the ceiling, but at this point, we just wanted them outta the way.
Once those two things were done, he could get the remaining lath off the upper wall, as well as the section of soffit that's comin' out.

That wall is load bearing, so next weekend we'll rip out the soffit framing and we'll be putting a support beam up top to replace the load that the wall was bearing.
Then the wall studs can be cut out.
Yay!
Slowly, but surely, right?

  1. Good thing The Baby was there to help out. I always say that when the puppy shows up to help with sorting laundry,.."Thank God you're here". Huge help, lol.

  7. It's going to look great with the two rooms open to each other! We are still deciding on whether to open up one wall of our kitchen. Did you need permits for any of this? I don't really understand the permitting system here, so if you have tips I'd love to hear them.
