The Dungeon: Makover Part I

I have so many projects in my head it's mind boggling.  It can be a bit overwhelming at times.  The problem with all of them is, they're still in idea stage.  I know what I want to do, it's just actually doing them.  I can't plan things.  I'll say I'm going to do something "tomorrow" and then wake up not feeling like it, or end up doing something else instead.

When I painted the master bathroom, I already had the color picked out for the master bedroom as well.  It's been sitting in the garage.  Waiting.

When our room was the baby room, we had installed a chair rail and did the walls two different colors.  When we added the addition and turned the baby room into the master bedroom, I just painted all the walls beige - above and below the chair rail - for the sake of getting it done.  I was pregnant with baby number two and master bedroom decor was not a priority at the time.

So for months, I've been going back and forth in my head over what I wanted to do with the chair rail.  Take it out?  Do two-toned again?  Then I started seeing all these photos of board and batten.  And I started to become obsessed with the idea.  So yesterday, when I woke up, I decided it was the day to make a decision and dive in.  I decided to rip out the chair rail and do a fake board and batten treatment that went up the wall 4 feet. I spent all morning going through pictures and pinning them on my Board & Batten Pinterest board.  Then I looked at them all together to decide on what style I liked best.  I settled on something very similar to what Thrifty Decor Chick did in her office.  I love that room of hers.

The Dad and I then spent too much time figuring out a material list.  We got it all dialed in and he was gonna head out to Home Depot, when I changed my mind.  LOL  I got to thinking about how much work that would be.  How with the height of the ledge, I would lose a ton of wall space for hanging things.  I know, I'm nuts.

So at 3:00 yesterday afternoon, I got out some primer and started priming below the chair rail.  Then The Dad put a coat of trim paint on over that while I cut in above with the wall color I had previously chosen.

Now, after all that rambling, here's what we started with:
(photo quality is lacking - but you'll get the idea)

Primer below the chair rail and six kagillion nail holes filled.

You can see in this picture where I had put up sample colors months ago.
They were hidden behind the pictures.
(The Kid is not sleeping, he's sulking because he was told not to jump on the bed)

First coat of paint above chair rail and first coat of trim paint below.

And no, I didn't move anything out of the room.
'Cause that's how I roll.
Actually, it was an, okay, I'm gonna start painting now, I'll just move this over.
HOWEVER, after sanding all those dang nail holes that I had filled, there was spackle dust EVERYWHERE.
So I cleaned the entire room and put everything back the way it was before going to bed last night.
There's no way I could have slept in that mess.
The Kids and The Dad camped in the backyard, so I got the ENTIRE bed to myself.
Ahhhhhhh.
Actually, that's a lie.
I shared the bed with this beast.

So now, the second coat of wall paint is drying.
The Dad is at Home Depot picking up supplies for stage 2.
As well as something for another project I have planned for the room.
If you follow me on Pinterest, you can probably figure out what that will be, based on my 500 new pins last night and today.

Back to work........

  1. I agree on the board & batten. It's gorgeous, but I don't want to give up what tiny little wall space I have in my small home. Looking good so far...can't wait to see the finished result!
