Life Snippets #8

It's time to purge some random photos.

The Girl asked me to make cinnamon rolls right after rolling out of bed a couple weekends ago.  Um, I sorta need a little more notice than that.  You know, 'cause I'm always whippin' out fresh baked, from scratch, cinnamon rolls.  ???  To  please the masses, without spending hours in the kitchen, I busted out the easy, tube biscuit, sticky buns.

(Here's the link to the "recipe":  15-Minute Sticky Buns, BUT, it's one of my posts that the photos have disappeared from.  And it's really rambly.  It won't hurt my feelings if you scroll down past all the jabbering and just get the directions on how to make the easiest cinnamon rolls in the world.)

When I set the plate down on the table, The Kid says, "Where's the frosting?!"  Are you kidding me?  So I stirred up some powdered sugar and milk.  There's your icing.  Geesh, no appreciation from kids these days.  Ha!

Nuts only on half, per The Girl's request.
Then she ate the nut side.
Seriously people, make up your minds.

What else have I got.....how about some spring flowers around the house.
I swiped a couple branches on our way home from school last week.

And a couple hyacinths jumped in my cart at the grocery store.
They're so dang pretty.

It's smoothie season again.
I make one every morning for Baby and myself.
Then the kids want one every day after school.
I always use low-fat vanilla yogurt, then mix and match frozen berries and fruit.
I used to only use juice as the liquid, but I've recently discovered unsweetened almond milk and really like it in them.
Sometimes I'll throw in a handful of quick-cooking oats or a glop of peanut butter, just to make it last longer in the full-belly department.
Sometimes vanilla, coconut, or almond extract.
And fresh spinach, if I have it.
I only put in about 1/4 C, though - it's hard to drink if it's a weird color.
I made one for the kids today that looked like split pea soup.
They loved it, and it tasted good, but I couldn't drink a whole one that looked like that.
Bleck.
This one was frozen mango, frozen raspberries, vanilla yogurt, oats, spinach, and almond milk.
Good stuff.

What else....I made the Corned Beef and Cabbage for our St. Patrick's Day dinner on Tuesday.
And I made Soda Bread for the first time.
There are a zillion recipes out there, so I went with the most basic one I could find.
Flour, baking soda, salt, and buttermilk.
No raisins, no sugar, no honey, no nothin'.
I wanted to try the plain one first, to see what it was like.
It's delicious.  Like, really, really good.
We ate it warm, with butter on it.
Uh huh.
I'll be bustin' that recipe out for soup season, for sure.

Ain't it purdy?
Check out the inside.

Yum.
Here it is with dinner.

That's all I've got today.
Happy almost Friday.
The kids will be on Spring Break next week.
Pray for me.

Please see my sidebar for the parties I link up to.

  1. Well, fast sticky buns--that's a good one to know! I haven't made cinnamon rolls in quite a while, but my husband loves them, so I do for him every so often. And I love your hyacinths. I eat a smoothie almost every day for breakfast, and I never thought to put spinach in it--that's a good idea. Your soda bread looks good, too. I've made it before, but I don't think it turned out as nice as yours looks. Have a happy first day of spring--it's cold, but at least it's sunny, for now.

  2. I have been looking around to see if there are any branches I can swipe and get away with it... but I am not so sure I can get away with it. All of your food looks delicious. My kiddos love smoothies and I love stuffing a ton of spinach in them.

  3. Sticky bun heaven!!! OH my! And yes that bread looks beautiful! I must try that one!! And I so wish we didn't have a darn nut allergy over here cause I would so like to try that almond milk! That smoothie is right up my ally as I can't drink down too many greens...( I like mine with spinach too!) for some reason I always do better eating them. Your flowers look so pretty in your home friend! And I'm praying for you...spring break over here too with more snow in the forecast....can you believe that!?!? Happy weekend lady! Nicole xoxo
