When we initially ripped off the disgusting metal siding a zillion years ago to expose the original cedar siding, I painted the front door, side door, and man door to the garage that's on the patio, all the same dark purple. (I painted all the windows the same color, but they've been replaced with white ones. Well, all but two that are still sitting on the side of the house waiting for us to put them in.) I'm over it now. Plus, they're beat to heck and need to be painted anyway.
Here's the front door.
(I hate the screen door. Okay, I don't hate it, but I strongly dislike it. Too foo-foo for my taste. A replacement is on the to-do list. The new one will be less wood, more screen and will show the color of the door more.)
Here's the door with the screen open.
(You can see this is one of the windows that is still on the to-do list.)
Here's the side door that's off the driveway.
This is the door that everyone, including us, comes in and out of.
(And the second window that's still in waiting mode.)
(A screen door for here is also on the to-do list, as well as a fresh coat of paint for the concrete stairs and the air conditioner.)
And lastly, here's the man door to the garage.
(The Dad just rebuilt and hung the old screen door here last weekend. Obviously I haven't gotten around to repainting it yet.)
(Sorry about the lighting - the sun is actually shining this morning.)
So this is what I need help with. WHAT COLOR?!?
I was thinking black for the garage door, but I'm not sure I would want that for the other two and I think I would like them all to be the same.
The only two colors I'm opposed two are red and orange. I'd love green, but I can't think of a shade that wouldn't clash with the sagey-gray color of the house.
All suggestions would be greatly appreciate.
I wonder if you could find a shade of yellow that would work. Something not too bright or "holy crap that's yellow", but more buttery (mmmm,...buttery,..sorry). I'm not a red or orange fan either. I guess a much darker sage/grey/green would look nice too.
ReplyDeleteYour porch area is cute looking. My initial thought was red, but since you axed that I think black is always a winner. I am not that design savvy and therefore I have a cooking blog instead of a home decor blog :P Show us some pics when you finish your project :)
ReplyDeleteI'm leaning toward the yellow....although I still like the idea of green....and black....and slate grey. Oh dear......I'm diggin' out the paint swatches.....
ReplyDeleteI just got home from Home Depot with paint for my son's room/bathroom remodel. I'm doing the green/gray/black color theme. I picked out a grayish green (Sanctuary) and a dark gray (Valley Hills). They're both Behr paints.
ReplyDeleteShasta, I like the sound of that combo. I'll have to check them out. I always go with Behr paint. It's the cheapest. :o)
ReplyDeleteI pinned a door for you on pinterest. If I didn't have two men in my house, I'd go for it myself...maybe.
ReplyDeleteI would go with the yellow/gold family which would look great with the green siding and add some punch. You have pink cushions and flowers and golden yellow looks great with pink. Also, around the window I would change out the blue and do black or white, prefer white - it's cheerier.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I would get one large hanging basket and place it centered in front of the large window so it frames it and also does not block the view if you're sitting on the porch. Add a couple of striped pillows for the chairs to pull all the colors together and I'll bring the lemonade.
ReplyDeleteAnd, in matching outdoor fabric, it would be fun to make a simple curtain for the one side of the porch (on the right) and leave it pulled back and pull it forward for privacy. That would be fun and look better than that window thingy that is there now. :-)
ReplyDeleteI vote black. Your house is my very favorite color ever..long before it became as popular as it is now. I would never evah wear yellow with sage green. Bleck. I think black will keep your color scheme classed up. Strictly my opinion. Best wishes on your color choices.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the suggestions so far! Yes, one of these days we'll get around to putting the last two new windows in and then they both will finally be white. The purple shall be no more! :o) I still haven't committed to the doors yet though.....will definitely take 'after' pictures when it's done.
ReplyDeleteI say go for either a black door, or a deep brown/red.
ReplyDeleteI know you are not big on red, and neither am I if it's candy apple bright, but a lovely brown/red or a clean black would really accentuate the lovely sage of your home (which I LOVE, by the way).
In my own opinion, maybe you should try painting your door with a more vibrant color. Perhaps, a yellow/gold or glossy dark purple could spice up your house.
