Pottery Barn Turtle Stool Knock-Off

Yesterday was my nephew's birthday.  He turned four.  I always try to come up with something that's homemade.  I've had a picture of some stools, that I ripped out of the Pottery Barn catalog, stashed in my idea folder for ages.  I came across it when I was looking for ideas.

Here's the image out of the catalog.

I decided to do the turtle.  Here's a close up from the Pottery Barn website.

All of the animals are regularly $69.  They're on sale right now for $54.99.  We made ours for $2.
The only wood we had to buy was a 2 x 2, we had the rest in the garage.
I also used paint and rattle can sealer that I already had.

 Here's the finished product.

The "shell" of the Pottery Barn one is individual pieces.  We decided to use one solid piece and use a router to cut out the design.  The same was done for the eyes and mouth.

The legs are different as well, but I wasn't goin' for an exact replica.  Their photo was just used as a starting point.

So there ya have it.  A Pottery Barn turtle stool/side table for $2 dollars.  I see a ladybug or butterfly in my nieces future.

Happy Birthday Lulu!!!
